Bathyteuthis devoleii

This species is found in the Gulf of Mexico and the tropical eastern North Atlantic down to 1500 m depth.

1. Head is short and wide with large eyes.
2. Arms
   1. Arms are short (~25% ML) and there is no photophore at the arm base.
   2. There are subtle, wavy trabeculae along the arms with minimal webbing.
   3. Arm suckers are arranged biserially at the base and become tightly clustered at the tip.
   4. Arm suckers are few in number (~73 per arm).
   5. Arm sucker teeth are truncated, ~14-16 per inner sucker ring.
3. Tenatcles are long and thin with the club ~18% ML.
   1. ~400 minute scukers on each club
4. Buccal lappet suckers number 0-3 with some variation among individuals examined.

This bathyteuthid is the smallest of all specimens examined.  This may prove to be a dwarf species when additonal individuals are documented.
