A small Vulcanoctopus specimen (NMNZ M.336671) collected from the Bounty Trough, southeastern New Zealand
This is a genus of benthic octopuses found in the Pacific deep sea. The type species, V. hydrothermalis, was described from two male specimens collected at 2640 m on the East Pacific Rise.
- Mantle muscular and pale
- Arms with two sucker series
- Eyes with very large, dark pupils
